My name is Kathleen McDonnell and I write novels and plays for young people, as well as books and articles about kids today. I write for and about kids - for because - to echo C.S. Lewis - I find that children's stories are usually the best medium to express what I want to say; and about because I have a burning interest in kids and their culture, how they think and feel about the world they're growing up in.

Alert to teachers: I'm always eager to go into schools to read from my plays and novels and to do writing workshops with students. Over the past decade I've taught storywriting, playwriting, even opera writing in many Toronto schools.
