Music

Ivy Mairi, Martha and Kathleen performing "The Wild Goose" at the launch for The Songweavers in May, 2008 at Toronto's Imperial Pub.
Music inspires much of my writing, and I spend a lot of my non-writing time singing and playing - mostly traditional songs from Appalachia and the British Isles. As kith&kin, I make music with my daughters Martha and Ivy Mairi (a rising singer-songwriter - click here to check out her MySpace page), and with the Sandbar Sisters, a trio made up of Cindy Jones, Joanna Kidd and myself.

Yet will I be Merry by kith&kin did blockbuster (by indie standards) business over the Christmas 2008 season. The CD features our three-part harmony versions of medieval carols, Appalachian hymns and rousing sing-alongs, and was launched at Toronto's Imperial Pub on Thursday, December 18. We think of Yet will I be Merry as our antidote to all that Christmas muzak in the shopping malls. Click here to check out our MySpace page.
