Music

Ivy Mairi, Martha and Kathleen performing "The Wild Goose" at the launch for The Songweavers in May, 2008 at Toronto's Imperial Pub.
Music inspires much of my writing, and I spend a lot of my non-writing time singing and playing - mostly traditional songs from Appalachia and the British Isles. I make music with my daughters Martha and Ivy Mairi (a rising singer-songwriter - click here to check out her MySpace page), and with the Sandbar Sisters, a trio made up of Cindy Jones, Joanna Kidd and myself.
At the moment Martha, Ivy and I are putting together a CD of Christmas carols and seasonal songs, featuring our trademark three-part harmonies and a mixed bag of instruments - banjo, guitar, dulcimer, autoharp, flute, even one from southern India called a sruty box. We plan to have it ready for Christmas 2008, so check back often for updates.
